Marativa isn’t just a sustainable seafood brand—it’s one of the most chef-loved, ocean-first product lines in the world. Built on the legacy of one of the first Fair Trade shrimp companies, their mission is to make ethical, artisanal fishing not only viable, but aspirational. From the docks to fine-dining kitchens, Marativa wanted their brand to reflect the depth of that mission. They came to La Visual to help make it happen—from the name up.

Marativa’s oceans-first approach guides every part of their business—from ethical sourcing to traceability technology to zero-additive processing. They offer wild-caught Mayan octopus, blue shrimp, Alaskan salmon, and more—all harvested using the most sustainable methods on Earth.

But despite the quality of their offering, the brand lacked a unified identity and clear voice. As they looked to scale across markets and audiences—from gourmet chefs to conscious consumers—they needed a brand with as much depth and integrity as the product itself.

Challenge

Marativa needed a name, a story, and a system. One that could:

We began with Brand Illumination, conducting in-depth research on the seafood industry, category dynamics, audience mindsets, and evolving sustainability trends. From there, we developed a strategy that could help Marativa cut through the noise with clarity, truth, and elegance.

Naming

Our strategic naming process explored dozens of directions—from mythological to modern, descriptive to evocative. The final name, Marativa, blends the Spanish word for sea ("mar") with a lyrical suffix that evokes vitality, perspective, and movement. Unique, ownable, and culturally resonant, it anchors the brand’s voice and mission in a single word.

Brand Strategy & Messaging

We articulated their brand around a central idea: Oceans First. This guiding philosophy shaped every piece of messaging, from web copy to product labels. We developed a flexible voice that could shift between educational, inspiring, and culinary-forward tones, depending on audience and context.

Visual Identity & Guidelines

We crafted a modern, premium identity system that honors the sea without resorting to cliché. Typography, color, and symbol work together to signal freshness, traceability, and global quality. The guidelines ensure consistency across packaging, digital experiences, and brand touchpoints.
